Gardner Street is proud to announce our new science lab! It is thanks to YOU and all of your generous donations to Friends of Gardner, that we were able to envision and build this space for every student to create, experiment, discover and get the hands-on learning that they need and deserve.
Using the FOSS (Full Option Science System) Program, our budding scientists have firsthand, participatory explorations through observing phenomena and making sense using investigation and discussion. Created at The University of California, Berkeley, the FOSS Program bridges research and practice by providing tools and strategies to engage students in enduring experiences that lead to deeper understanding of the natural and designed worlds.
Students study physical science, life science, earth science and engineering and with our lab, learn to ask questions, test their ideas in logical ways, and generate explanations and integrate the new information into real life understanding. Science is both what we know (content knowledge) and how we come to know it (science practices), and we are thrilled to be able to provide our students with meaningful scientific experiences, through engaging and active participation in scientific practices.
We can’t wait to introduce you to all the discoveries of our future scientists!
